Today's My Birthday
A poem
Another year around the sun. It's my birthday. Once upon a time, I might have not been so enthused about sharing much about this day. But, I'm here with friends, and sharing personal stuff is kinda what I do here because there's no judgement, and so many of you have come to mean a lot to me. So, today, I turn 57.
Good Friday
1969
My history commenced
Son of a single mom
.
An early Spring baby
But many years
Rain or snow
Has dampened my day
.
Eighteenth birthday
Roads covered in ice
Mom and family
Still made it special
.
Thirtieth
Easter Sunday
In a year of
New beginnings
.
Nowadays
It's just a quiet celebration
Spent with my own
Little family
.
Today
I start my fifty seventh
Monthly family's men's brunch
Finish with a ballgame with my girl.
.
I've never been one
To celebrate myself
But despite everything
I choose to celebrate another day upright and breathing
.
Because I deserve to celebrate
With the ones
I love
The most
.
I'm proud of turning 57
I'm healthy
I have family and friends who love me
Without condition
.
Most
Important
I'm
Alive
.
Seriously, I don't need anything. Just being here and having a supportive community of fellow writers from all walks of life worldwide, I have all that I need.

Happy Birthday for the 4th you share your birthday with my Dad ๐
