The Grass Isn't Greener
A Poem
Right now, it’s winter
The grass is largely dead
Surely there’s green grass
Any other place
But is it greener
Than what’s temporarily dead here?
Sometimes
We’re tricked into thinking so
It’s easy to marvel
At someone else’s yard
So neat
So deep green
The mulch
The treatments
The care they take to
Make it seemingly look perfect
And for a time
You think it is perfect
No one’s grass
Could possibly be better
And then, you look
To your own yard
And think
Maybe it’s not so bad
After all
It is winter
And come spring
You start caring for it again
This time
You have a plan
To take better care
Of your own yard
Water it.
Edge it.
Maybe a little mulch
Some real TLC
Sometimes it's hard
Tending to your own yard
Because other yards
Look much prettier
But you put the work in
Give it the love it needs
And then maybe, one day
Your own grass will be greener

You know Mark, I kept telling myself the grass isn't greener, and take care of my own grass, but I failed, big time, it was greener and I wasted so much time watering the wrong yard
