Needy
A poem
I'm convinced that
When the day comes
And my soul is leaving my body
That someone will say…
.
“You can't leave yet”
“Did you feed the dog?”
“He still needs to go out”
“We need toilet paper”
.
It's nice to be loved
It's good to be needed
But sometimes
It's simply too much
.
“Did you pay that bill?”
“Can we have pizza?”
“The yard needs mowed”
“The bushes need trimmed”
.
I've never minded helping
I'm a caring guy
But sometimes
They expect too much
.
“Can you go here?”
“Can you take me there?”
“Run the vacuum”
“Clean up this mess”
.
I'm really not complaining
I might be exaggerating
But when it's my time
The last thing I want to hear
.
Is
“You
Forgot
To…”
.
I love my family. So much. I know they love me too. Sometimes I feel like they take advantage of me. I've often let them, and because I've almost always done things without them even asking, and me being a people pleaser by nature, they don't even realize that's what's happening. My hope, and I really do believe that, once I'm gone, they'll miss me, but not for the reasons above, but because they truly do love me.
I hope you enjoyed this. If you did:
