Crying Inside
A suppression poem
I wake up in the morning light
to start a brand new day.
I try to put on a happy face
But that soon fades away
Reality hits and
Here we go again.
It’s a good thing
That crying isn’t a sin.
I don’t let them see me cry,
Oh, no that’s not me.
Instead I’m crying on the inside,
And the world simply cannot see.
Maybe it’s me being manly
My feelings kept inside.
But, no, that’s not why
My feelings I do hide.
You see, I don’t have time to fret,
Or to show my weary face.
Because tomorrow is another day
I get to run this race.
The race is one that has an end
It will be on that day.
When no more tears are cried
That simply is the way.
Until then I will cry
My tears they will hide.
Only I’ll know that I’m still crying
On the inside.
