A Quiet Winter's Eve
Short Descriptive Essay
The nighttime air is bitter cold, cold enough to burn. The dark night sky is only illuminated by some moonlight, area light pollution, and an occasional set of headlights going down an otherwise sleepy street.
Me, I’m bundled up like I’m in the arctic. Now, mind you, it is pretty cold out, but I’m also only out there to give my pooch his last short jaunt around the backyard before we both turn in for the night. Nonetheless, the air is somewhat painful against the exposed skin on my face, but it’s manageable…at least for a moment or two.
The dog, per usual, is sniffing around, occasionally bending down to kiss the previous nights snowfall with his nose. Inevitably, he’ll almost always come in with a dusting of snow on his nose, and to me, it’s such a cute, fun thing to see. Oh, to be a dog an not care, like I do, about how frigid it is. It’s just a blip in time for him, and he’s simply savoring the moment.
I turn my attention to the sounds of this winter night. My shoes are crunching footprints in the snow, and if I listen close enough, I can hear it echo. An occasional gust of the cold night wind blows through the yard, and for a brief moment, I feel alive.
